Mohammed was orphaned by the time he was six.

Adopted by his merchant uncle, he traveled throughout Egypt and the Near East, where he learned the theology of the Jews and Christians.

He claimed to have received a revelation from the angel Gabriel.

Mohammed authored the Koran, containing prayers, rules of etiquette and calls  to wage "holy wars."

Muslims claim Abraham as  their father...

AD 600 Corruption of the Papacy

By AD 600, the Papacy had been firmly established.  However, various forms of corruption had crept in.

Lay Investiture:  This was the practice of wealthy noblemen electing a Pope, usually from among themselves.  Thus, some Popes did not even have religious training as a priest!

Simony:  This was another name for the same practice.  It meant "the buying and selling of a church office," and was named after Simon the Sorcerer.

Immorality:  Some Popes had many concubines and even illegitimate children who were appointed cardinals and priests.

Illiteracy:  During the medieval period, there were even some priests who could neither read nor write.

The Borgias:  These were a particularly corrupt group of Popes during the medieval period of the Catholic Church.
